Dogfighting is a violent, brutal, sadistic contest in which two dogs that are specifically bred, conditioned and trained to fight are placed in a pit to fight eachother. All for the sake of gambling and entertainment. The fight ends when one of the dogs is no longer willing or able to continue. This underground phenomenon exists in every community and thrives in rural areas. There are also reports that street fighting-- the infomal, disorganized matches are on the rise. Dogs used in fights sustain serious injuries such as deep puncture wounds and broken bones. Many suffer and later die hours or days after a fight from blood loss, shock, dehydration or infection.
